The Tabán Rotary Club Charitable Foundation was established by the Budapest-Tabán Rotary Club for the organisational, administrative and financial operations of the Rotary Prize for Hungarian Literature. Its principal objective was to clearly separate the activities of the Club from those of the Rotary Prize for Hungarian Literature. The Foundation is managed by a Board whose members are elected by the club. The financial affairs of the Foundation are open to sponsors of the Foundation.
The Foundation oganises the Rotary Prize for Hungarian Literature. The Friends are an organisation without independent legal status which seeks individuals and organisations to sponsor the Prize and informs them about events relating to the Prize. The Foundation meets the costs of the Friends. Anyone who considers Hungarian literature to be important and expresses it through monetary support of the Foundation may become a member of the Friends.

Rotary in brief
Paul Harris, an American lawyer and his friends founded the first Rotary club in 1905. Their purpose was to promote ethical behaviour, friendship, and goodwill as well as to help others. Today more than 1.2 million members in 32 000 clubs around the world follow these principles, free from politics, religion, party or government influence, open to all cultures, race or ideology before people. The common slogan: Service above Self
expresses the aim of Rotary: service in public life, the community, the workplace and everywhere in the world. The first club in Hungary was founded in 1925. Then, when the country bore the scars of its recent apocalypse, we joined a new movement, which promoted friendship between peoples, understanding and a humanitarian focus. Its spirit spread rapidly. Its members were business people, public figures, and top professionals. Of these, the most famous was Albert Szent-Gyorgyi. In 1990, the movement revived and continued its tradition. Thanks to the excellent work of many individuals, the Rotary here now comprises 50 clubs operating in their own independent district. The Rotary is a huge, global, apolitical association, in which accomplished business people and professionals voluntarily perform humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards and help there to be goodwill and peace on Earth.
